The Japan Patent Office will soon start support teams specialize in the technical fields receiving international attention and dispatch them to several universities. The JPO will also launch panels in various fields to enhance international competitiveness of universities.
In Japan, even if universities develop promising basic technique, they sometimes do not file patent applications and foreign companies and/or universities obtain patents regarding the related technique, even in the case of iPS cell-related inventions.
The JPO’s team will support universities in obtaining patent protection, starting in the field of genome.
